Featured Chef: John Ash
Chef John Ash, award-winning cookbook author and culinary educator, has been a North Bay favorite since opening his John Ash & Company restaurant in Santa Rosa in 1980.
His leadership with the restaurant, which continues to draw praise under new ownership, led Chef John to be called the “Father of Wine Country Cuisine” for his early devotion to using local, seasonal ingredients to create dishes paired to regional wines.
Chef John teaches regularly at the Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena and appears at events around the world. He was named “Seafood Educator of the Year” at the 2014 Cooking for Solutions conference at Monterey Bay Aquarium and “Cooking School Teacher of the Year” by the International Association of Culinary Professionals in 2008.
Two of his cookbooks have won coveted James Beard Awards: Culinary Birds in 2014 and John Ash Cooking One-on-One: Private Lessons in Simple Contemporary Food from a Master Teacher in 2005.
