Featured Chef: Joanne Weir

Chef Joanne Weir embodies a family legacy of home cooking. Her great-grandmother operated a restaurant in Boston at the turn of the century and her mother was a professional chef.

After earning a degree in Art Education from the University of Massachusetts and teaching fine arts in Boston, Joanne turned her creative passion to cooking. She worked with Alice Waters at Chez Panisse in Berkeley and studied with Madeleine Kamman in New England and France, but found a new calling in teaching.

Awarded the very first Julia Child Cooking Teacher Award of Excellence in 1999, Joanne also shares her experience through cookbooks and television. She presented the PBS-TV series, “Weir Cooking in the Wine Country” and “Weir Cooking in the City” a 26-part PBS-TV series based in San Francisco. The companion book received a James Beard Award for Best Cookbook, General Category, in 2005.

More recently, the chef became a Marin restaurateur, partnering with Poggio founder Larry Mindel to open Sausalito’s Copita Tequileria y Comida in 2012.

Chef Joanne Weir makes her next appearance at Fresh Starts Chef Events in February 2016. For details, please visit the Fresh Starts Chef Events calendar or call 415-382-3363 x213.
