Renovations start soon to create permanent supportive housing for 18 people at 1591 Casa Buena Drive in Corte Madera. This new program operated by Homeward Bound will occupy the former America’s Best Value Inn.

The Marin Board of Supervisors has approved a lease of the property to Homeward Bound for $1 per year. The county of Marin purchased the site last year with funds from the state’s Project Homekey initiative.

Homeward Bound will oversee improvements for 18 single-room units with a community room, dining area and outdoor patios. The $1.8 million construction plan adds kitchenettes in each room and upgrades for disability access.

The Casa Buena program will open in spring 2022, providing case management, community activities and other services to help residents thrive.

“Casa Buena housing will be a wonderful, supportive environment in Corte Madera for people to call home,” Executive Director Mary Kay Sweeney says. “We are thrilled to have tremendous community support and involvement.”
