Progress to end veteran homelessness in Marin County got the spotlight from ABC-TV Channel 7 this week in a report by Lyanne Melendez.
In her piece, she speaks with veteran George Phelps, who moved into our 24-unit Puett Place community after it opened last year. Thanks to community investment, George now has a comfortable home and Marin County has reduced the current number of unhoused veterans to five.
Homeward Bound of Marin and Puett Place hold a critical role in the collaboration to end veteran homelessness, which involves partner organizations across the county. Last year, we served 53 veterans across our programs.
“We brought it down just a person at a time, looking at each of the veterans in our county,” Carrie Sager, our Chief Operating Officer, tells ABC-7 about the effort.
Marin County aims to become the first in California to reach “functional zero” for veterans, when solutions can be found quickly for anyone who becomes unhoused after serving their country.
