Ensure continuing shelter and programs

A legacy gift to Homeward Bound of Marin helps ensure access to safe, supportive and affordable shelter for coming generations.

We are ready to help you develop a personalized strategy to make an impact in sustaining the important work that we’ve started together – critical assistance in times in crisis and award-winning programs to end the scourge of homelessness. Please contact Corry Kanzenberg to learn more about planned giving options.

Planned gifts of any size

With a planned gift of any size, you will help secure the future of these essential services for our community. In addition, your gift may provide tax advantages to your heirs. Many avenues exist to meet your planning goals, including a bequest in your will or trust, a gift of retirement assets including appreciated stock, a gift from a donor-advised fund or a charitable trust.

Many ways to give

We offer this overview as information only and encourage all supporters to consult an attorney or tax advisor with their estate plans. Homeward Bound of Marin gratefully accepts legacy gifts in several ways.

Bequests

A bequest to Homeward Bound made in a will or trust is easy to arrange and may be for a specific sum, the residue of the estate, or a percentage of the residue.

Donor-advised funds

You may already have established a donor-advised fund that directs grants to support our mission. In addition, your estate plans may designate Homeward Bound as a full or partial beneficiary of residual funds to extend your warm-hearted support.

IRA or retirement assets

You may name Homeward Bound as a beneficiary of your IRA or qualified retirement plan (for example, a 401(k), 403(b), Keogh or profit-sharing pension plan). To do so, simply contact your plan custodian for a Designation of Beneficiary Form.

Life insurance policies

You may designate Homeward Bound to receive proceeds from a life insurance policy by indicating your wishes with a Designation of Beneficiary Form.

Gifts of real estate or other personal property

A gift of specific property to Homeward Bound of Marin may be included as a bequest in your estate plans.

Charitable trusts

You can create a Charitable Lead Trust that provides a specific amount or percentage of assets to Homeward Bound of Marin, with the rest for other heirs. A Charitable Remainder Trust designates Homeward Bound to receive the residue after gifts to other heirs have been fulfilled.

Contact our development department

Your legacy gift will be invested through our Homeward Bound Endowment Fund (at your request) or our Board-Designated Reserve Fund for future opportunities and rapid response needs.

While we prefer undesignated gifts to apply to the greatest need, we accept gifts designated to specific programs at Homeward Bound of Marin upon approval of our Board of Directors.

For more information about opportunities for planned giving at Homeward Bound of Marin or our gift acceptance guidelines, please contact our Development Department.
