We’re poised to start work on our new veterans housing! Thanks to everyone who shared cheers and encouragement with us at our Groundbreaking Celebration on the eve of Veterans Day.
Fire departments from across Marin will have a chance to use the dilapidated warehouses for practice before demolition begins to make way for 24 apartments at our site. When completed, this housing can make Marin County one of the first in the state to end veteran homelessness.
“This significant and timely project marks another milestone in our community progress,” says Mary Kay Sweeney, Co-Chief Executive Officer for Homeward Bound of Marin. The housing site on the former Hamilton Air Force Base suits veterans perfectly, she adds.
The veterans housing will be Phase 1 of a larger development on 2.6 acres that won final approval from the Novato City Council in August. A later phase of work at the site adjoining our main campus will add 26 apartments for families and adults transitioning out of homelessness and space to expand our social enterprise ventures.
Our capital campaign has raised more than $13 million for the veterans housing. You can help complete these homes for heroes when you give online or by check to Homeward Bound of Marin, 1385 N. Hamilton Parkway, Novato, CA 94949 (write “homes for heroes” in the memo.)
