Our programs to move unhoused families toward housing and independence have received a $2.5 million award from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund.
“Housing for everyone — children and their families in particular — is a basic human right,” said Paul Fordham, co-CEO of Homeward Bound of Marin. “These catalytic funds will accelerate our progress towards bringing home all unhoused families in Marin.”
Last year, Homeward Bound served 245 parents and children in shelter and housing programs. Of those who left, 81 percent transitioned into permanent housing.
The grant will bolster services at the Family Center shelter and open more paths to independence by expanding supportive housing. Homeward Bound cut the ribbon this week on the 26-unit Sweeney Place housing program that includes six apartments for families transitioning out of homelessness.
Grant funds also will add an Income Enhancement Specialist to help families with employment and strengthen work to reduce the number of homeless families headed by Transition-Age Youth parents (18 to 26 years old) through targeted outreach and specialized services.
A national group of advisors selected Homeward Bound of Marin as a Day 1 Families Fund grant recipient. The fund today made awards to 40 organizations in 23 states.
“This investment will not only provide critical resources but will also allow Homeward Bound of Marin to be innovative when offering services to end family homelessness. We are grateful that we can provide families with the resources, support and opportunities they need to find housing and build long-term stability and resilience,” said Anna Hurtado, Homeward Bound’s Chief Program Officer.
