We embarked this week on a new initiative to create supportive homes for seniors who have faced homelessness. Homeward Bound of Marin has acquired the property at 77 Locust Ave. in San Rafael’s Dominican neighborhood to develop homes for 28 older adults.
With community input, we will create plans to remodel the aging structure using the existing footprint of the building as a guide. Join us to learn more at a Community Meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at the property.
This proposal would help meet a critical need in our community, where the median age is among the highest in California. Seniors make up 27% of people in our programs; many have fallen into homelessness for the first time.
We expect work at the site could begin in 2028, allowing time for planning review and fundraising to meet the estimated $15 million cost of renovations. Future residents will have their own apartments with kitchenettes, while onsite staff will provide services.
