Members of the Rotary Clubs of Marin amassed a force this month to help furnish new housing for families and adults at our Novato campus. Their effort added to the list of volunteer days that Rotarians have contributed to open 50 new homes for people moving out of homelessness.

At Sweeney Place, they spent a Saturday moving, unpacking and arranging everything from trash bins to silverware for 26 units. The first tenants will begin moving home in the next few weeks!

Organized by Sylvia Barry of Novato, the volunteer days started a year ago as we prepared to open 24 apartments for unhoused veterans. The clubs joined to raise $50,000 for full sponsorship of two units and wanted to do more.

“The goal with our larger projects is for every club to participate,” says Sylvia, who is one of four assistant district governors for the Rotary Clubs in Marin. “Rotarians really like to do hands-on projects.” Read more about their work in a story from our Fall/Winter News.
