Trainees in the first class of 2025 received their Certificates in Culinary Arts from Fresh Starts Culinary Academy after 11 weeks of intensive learning. Following their graduation event, the students shared a menu of delicious bites created for their friends and family. Five have accepted transitional positions in our kitchen to continue expanding their skills. Their dedication inspires us!
The keynote speaker, Jarie Santos, also lifted our hearts as he shared his journey to a successful culinary career. The chef/owner of La Esperanza Pupuseria y Comedor in San Rafael graduated from our training in 2016 and worked toward his dream of owning a restaurant with his wife, Esperanza. They opened the B Street pupuseria four years ago and continue growing their fan base for authentic Salvadoran and Guatemalan specialties.
Our team has begun interviews for candidates to join the class that starts on Monday, May 5. Along with our shelter and housing residents, Fresh Starts Culinary Academy enrolls low-income students from the community who are searching for new career paths. People interested in working in the busy food industry can apply now online for the program, which is recognized by the American Culinary Federation.
